Baltimore Orioles Prepare for Roster Revamp with Key Trades on the Horizon.

The Baltimore Orioles are preparing for a significant roster revamp as key trades loom on the horizon. After an impressive 2023 season where they captured the AL East title, the Orioles now find themselves in a position where retooling is essential to maintain their status as contenders. With a deep farm system and a young core, Baltimore is in a unique spot to both make aggressive moves and shore up weak spots on the roster.

One of the primary areas the Orioles are likely to address is their pitching staff. Despite having several promising arms, the team’s postseason shortcomings highlighted the need for more reliable starting pitching. Rumors are circulating that Baltimore may pursue top-tier arms on the trade market, with names like Corbin Burnes, Shane Bieber, and Tyler Glasnow being floated as potential targets. Acquiring a legitimate ace would give the Orioles the rotation depth needed to complement their young offense.

On the flip side, Baltimore is rich in prospect capital. The Orioles boast one of the deepest farm systems in Major League Baseball, with several high-impact players either already in the majors or on the cusp of promotion. Infielder Jordan Westburg and outfielder Heston Kjerstad could be among the prospects considered in trade discussions, although Baltimore may be hesitant to part with these future stars. However, they may look to move some of their depth in the minors to address immediate needs at the big-league level.

In addition to pitching, there’s speculation that the Orioles might pursue a veteran power bat to provide leadership and added pop to the middle of their lineup. Although their offense was a strength during the 2023 season, adding a proven slugger could help them compete against the powerhouse teams in the American League come playoff time.
