The Tennessee Lady Volunteers basketball team suffered a significant blow heading into the 2024-25 season with the announcement that junior guard Kaiya Wynn will be sidelined for the year due to a torn Achilles. Wynn, who sustained the injury during preseason training, was expected to play a vital role in Tennessee’s backcourt. Her absence leaves a noticeable gap in the Lady Vols’ lineup as they prepare for another competitive season in the SEC.

 

Kaiya Wynn, known for her athleticism and versatility, has been a key contributor to the Lady Vols since joining the team. In her sophomore season, she displayed her all-around ability, contributing as a scorer, defender, and facilitator. Averaging 6.2 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game during the 2023-24 season, she was poised to take on an even larger role this year under head coach Kellie Harper. Wynn’s strong defensive presence and ability to drive to the basket made her a critical piece of the team’s guard rotation, and her leadership and experience were seen as assets for the Lady Vols’ pursuit of an SEC title and deep NCAA tournament run.

 

The loss of Wynn forces the Lady Vols to reconfigure their backcourt strategy. Tennessee boasts a talented roster, but replacing Wynn’s energy and versatility will be a challenge. Sophomore guards Jillian Hollingshead and Justine Pissott are likely to see increased playing time, while newcomers like 5-star recruit point guard Jada Harrison could also step into more prominent roles.
