Four-star DT Myron Charles Commits with Texas Longhorns over Florida Gators.

In a significant recruiting win for the Texas Longhorns, four-star defensive tackle Myron Charles has committed to the program, choosing Texas over the Florida Gators. The decision, which took place on December 4, 2024, is a major boost for Texas as they continue to solidify their defense under head coach Steve Sarkisian.

Charles, a 6-foot-4, 300-pound prospect from Shreveport, Louisiana, is regarded as one of the top defensive tackles in the 2025 recruiting class. Known for his explosive first step and powerful presence in the trenches, Charles brings a level of athleticism and strength that will make him a force on the defensive line at the next level. He ranks among the top 150 players nationally and is a key target for elite college programs.

The recruiting battle for Charles had been intense, with Texas and Florida emerging as the two primary contenders for his services. The Gators, who have been rebuilding their defense under new head coach Billy Napier, were seen as strong contenders due to their proximity and the pitch of building a formidable defensive line in Gainesville. However, Charles ultimately opted to join the Longhorns, drawn by Texas’ upward trajectory as a national powerhouse in college football.

One of the key factors in Charles’ decision was the Longhorns’ defensive development and their continued rise in the Big 12 and national rankings. Sarkisian has shown that he is capable of attracting top-tier talent to Austin, and Charles, along with other recent commitments, could help the Longhorns build a dominant defensive front. Additionally, the opportunity to play in the competitive environment of the Big 12, along with Texas’ push for national relevance, played a crucial role in Charles’ decision-making process.

Charles also cited Texas’ excellent facilities, fan base, and the program’s commitment to developing players as major selling points. The Longhorns’ defensive coaching staff, led by defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski, has gained a reputation for its ability to develop players into NFL-caliber talent. Charles’ raw talent and athleticism fit perfectly into the system, where he is expected to make an immediate impact once he arrives in Austin.

Charles’ commitment is a major win for Texas’ 2025 recruiting class, further enhancing the program’s ability to contend for future championships. The addition of a top-tier defensive tackle like Charles is crucial in helping Texas establish one of the most formidable defensive lines in college football.

While Florida’s pursuit of Charles fell short, they remain a strong contender in the recruiting landscape, continuing to focus on improving their defensive line. For Texas, however, this commitment signifies another step toward reestablishing themselves as a dominant force in college football.
