Tennessee football commit Faizon Brandon continues to make waves on and off the field, earning the prestigious Gatorade North Carolina Player of the Year award for his stellar performance during the 2024 high school football season. The five-star defensive back from Charlotte cemented his status as one of the top players in the country, showcasing exceptional skill, leadership, and a commitment to excellence both on and off the gridiron.
Brandon, a senior at Charlotte Catholic High School, has been a dominant force throughout his high school career. In his final season, the 6-foot-2, 190-pound standout recorded 68 tackles, six interceptions, and three forced fumbles while also contributing as a dynamic return specialist. His versatility and football IQ made him a nightmare for opposing offenses, consistently shutting down top receivers and making game-changing plays.
“Faizon is a one-of-a-kind player,” said his high school coach, Matt Reilly. “He’s the heart and soul of our team and a leader on and off the field. This award is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and the example he sets for everyone around him.”
The Gatorade Player of the Year award is about more than just athletic performance. It also recognizes academic achievement and character. Brandon excels in the classroom, maintaining a 3.8 GPA, and is deeply involved in his community. He volunteers regularly with local youth football programs and participates in initiatives to support underserved neighborhoods in Charlotte.
“This award means a lot to me because it’s about more than football,” Brandon said. “It’s about being a leader in everything you do—on the field, in school, and in your community. I’m thankful for my coaches, teammates, and family who have helped me get to this point.”
Brandon’s commitment to Tennessee has Vols fans excited about the future of the program. A five-star recruit and the top-ranked player in North Carolina, he is expected to make an immediate impact in Knoxville. Known for his physicality, elite athleticism, and ability to read the game, Brandon is the type of defensive back that head coach Josh Heupel can build a secondary around.
“Faizon embodies everything we look for in a student-athlete,” Heupel said. “He’s a competitor, a leader, and someone who strives for excellence in all aspects of life. We can’t wait to have him join the Tennessee family.”
As Brandon prepares to enroll at Tennessee, his Gatorade Player of the Year honor is another milestone in a career that already promises greatness. For now, he remains focused on finishing his high school journey strong and preparing to take his talents to the next level. Tennessee fans have every reason to be excited about the arrival of a player who not only excels on the field but also embodies the values of hard work, humility, and leadership.
