In a strategic move to bolster their coaching staff, the Detroit Lions have appointed former New England Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo as their new linebackers coach. General Manager Brad Holmes announced the hiring, emphasizing Mayo’s extensive experience both as a player and coach in the NFL.
Jerod Mayo, 38, brings a wealth of knowledge to the Lions. He was selected 10th overall by the Patriots in the 2008 NFL Draft and enjoyed a distinguished eight-year playing career as a linebacker. His accolades include being named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2008, earning first-team All-Pro honors in 2010, and securing two Pro Bowl selections. Transitioning to coaching, Mayo joined the Patriots’ staff in 2019 as the inside linebackers coach.
