The Oklahoma Sooners softball team continued their dominant play on Wednesday, run-ruling the Tulsa Golden Hurricane 10-0 in five innings. The Sooners’ offense was led by Ailana Agbayani, who drove in five runs on two hits, including a grand slam in the bottom of the third inning.
The Sooners’ victory marked their 12th consecutive win, and improved their overall record to 25-2 on the season. The Golden Hurricane, meanwhile, fell to 14-15 overall.
Oklahoma’s starting pitcher, Jordy Bahl, was dominant in the circle, tossing four shutout innings while allowing just two hits and striking out six. Bahl improved her record to 10-1 on the season, and lowered her ERA to 0.63.
The Sooners’ offense was explosive, scoring 10 runs on nine hits, including three home runs. Agbayani’s grand slam in the third inning was the highlight of the game, and gave the Sooners a 7-0 lead.
“Ailana had a huge game for us tonight,” said Oklahoma head coach Patty Gasso. “Her grand slam was a big blow, and really gave us some momentum. Our offense was clicking on all cylinders tonight, and it was great to see.”
The Sooners’ victory was also marked by outstanding defense, as they committed just one error on the night. Oklahoma’s infield was particularly impressive, turning two double plays and making several sharp plays on ground balls.
“Tulsa is a good team, and they can hit the ball,” said Gasso. “But our defense was solid tonight, and really helped us get out of some jams. Jordy was great in the circle, and our offense was able to take advantage of some mistakes and score some runs.”
The Sooners will look to continue their winning streak on Friday, when they host the Baylor Bears in a Big 12 Conference matchup. The game is scheduled to start at 6:00 PM CT, and will be televised on ESPN+.
In other softball news, the NCAA released its latest rankings on Wednesday, and the Sooners remained at No. 1 in the country. Oklahoma has been ranked No. 1 for five consecutive weeks, and has been ranked in the top five for 10 consecutive weeks.
The Sooners’ dominant play has been led by their outstanding pitching, which has allowed just 1.35 runs per game this season. Oklahoma’s offense has also been impressive, scoring 7.41 runs per game and hitting .342 as a team.
With their victory over Tulsa on Wednesday, the Sooners improved their record to 25-2 on the season. They will look to continue their winning streak on Friday, when they host the Baylor Bears in a Big 12 Conference matchup.
