Memphis forward Ashton Hardaway has officially announced his return for the 2025-26 college basketball season, confirming he will suit up for the Tigers for another year under the guidance of his father and head coach, Penny Hardaway. The decision marks a pivotal moment in Hardaway’s young career, as he looks to build on his potential and complete the unfinished business he believes still lies ahead in Memphis.

Hardaway, a 6-foot-8 forward known for his perimeter shooting and versatility, showed flashes of his scoring ability during the 2024-25 season but battled inconsistency and limited minutes at times. Now, with another offseason of development and a renewed focus, the rising junior is aiming to take on a larger leadership role and elevate his game to new heights.

“This city, this program, and this team mean everything to me,” Hardaway said in a statement. “I’ve grown so much over the last two years, and I know I haven’t played my best basketball yet. I’m coming back to rewrite my story and help bring Memphis back to where it belongs—on top.”

While his last season featured highs and lows, including key scoring performances off the bench, Hardaway’s upside has never been in question. A deadly catch-and-shoot threat with a high basketball IQ, he has the tools to become a central piece of the Tigers’ offense moving forward. With a full summer ahead to refine his body, improve defensively, and increase his overall impact, Hardaway could become a breakout candidate in the American Athletic Conference.

Head coach Penny Hardaway welcomed his son’s decision to return, calling it an opportunity for Ashton to “take the next step in his journey.”

“Watching Ashton grow as a player and as a young man has been one of the most rewarding parts of my coaching career,” said Penny. “He’s putting in the work, he’s focused, and I know he wants to help this program compete at the highest level. I’m proud of his decision to come back and finish what he started.”

With Ashton’s return, Memphis gains experience, shooting, and continuity—three valuable assets as the team retools for a critical campaign. The Tigers are expected to add several new faces through the transfer portal and recruiting, but Hardaway’s return provides a key building block around which Penny and his staff can shape the 2025-26 rotation.

For Ashton Hardaway, it’s not just about a comeback—it’s about writing a new chapter. And in Memphis, the story is far from over.
