After a promising freshman campaign, sophomore guard CJ Cox is officially back and ready to make a major impact for Purdue Basketball. The Boilermakers are welcoming Cox’s return with open arms as the dynamic young guard looks to elevate his game and help lead Purdue to new heights this season.
Cox, who showed flashes of brilliance last year, brings speed, agility, and a high basketball IQ to the Boilermakers’ backcourt. His ability to create off the dribble and pressure opponents on defense gives Purdue a much-needed spark. With a full offseason of development under his belt, the sophomore is expected to take on a larger role in Matt Painter’s rotation.
“CJ’s growth over the past year has been impressive,” said Coach Painter. “He’s more confident, more vocal, and more locked in on both ends of the court. He’s got the tools and the mindset to be a difference-maker for us.”
During his freshman year, Cox averaged modest numbers but gained valuable experience in key conference matchups. His court vision, tenacity, and willingness to learn stood out, earning him praise from both teammates and coaches. Now, with more minutes and responsibilities likely coming his way, Cox is ready to seize the opportunity.
“I’ve been grinding all summer,” Cox said. “I feel like I’ve improved every part of my game. I’m excited to compete and help this team win.”
