The Golden State Warriors are reportedly eyeing a major roster shake-up this offseason, with rumors swirling around a potential blockbuster trade for a $90 million All-Star center. As the team seeks to reignite its championship aspirations, insiders suggest the front office is targeting Atlanta Hawks big man Clint Capela to bring much-needed size, defense, and rebounding to a roster that has struggled with interior presence.

Capela, a seasoned veteran and defensive anchor, has two years remaining on his contract worth roughly $45 million. The total value of his current deal, originally signed at $90 million, reflects the caliber of his impact on both ends of the floor. Known for his rim protection, elite rebounding, and pick-and-roll prowess, Capela could be the ideal complement to the Warriors’ core of Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson — assuming the latter returns in free agency or via a restructured deal.

Golden State’s 2024-25 season ended in disappointment, with the team failing to make a deep playoff run and raising questions about the sustainability of their current core. General Manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. has expressed the need for a “retool, not a rebuild,” signaling the front office’s desire to remain competitive while tweaking the roster. Adding Capela would address one of the Warriors’ most glaring weaknesses: their lack of size and rim protection.
