West Virginia University (WVU) has secured an official visit from one of the nation’s top linebacker prospects, Colsen Gatten, a standout from Pittsburgh’s Central Catholic High School. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound junior is a Rivals-rated three-star recruit and is considered one of the top 2026 defensive players in Pennsylvania.

Gatten initially received an offer from WVU in January 2024. Following a coaching change in Morgantown, new defensive coordinator Zac Alley reaffirmed the offer, emphasizing the program’s commitment to Gatten’s recruitment. Alley, who had previously recruited Gatten while at Oklahoma, expressed enthusiasm about Gatten’s versatility and speed, noting his ability to play any linebacker position.

Gatten plans to visit Morgantown for a junior day on February 1, aiming to familiarize himself with the new coaching staff and the program’s direction. His recruitment has garnered attention from several Power Five programs, including Penn State, Pittsburgh, Michigan, Indiana, and Duke.

In his sophomore season, Gatten recorded 48 tackles, two tackles for loss, and an interception over 12 games. His performance, including a pivotal 30-yard pick-six against North Allegheny, has solidified his reputation as a dynamic playmaker.

Gatten’s recruitment is influenced by his father, Aaron Gatten, a former Penn State linebacker, who provides guidance while emphasizing that the decision ultimately rests with Colsen.

As Gatten continues to evaluate his options, WVU’s proactive approach and renewed interest under Coach Alley position the Mountaineers as a strong contender in his recruitment.
