Three Reasons Why Skylar Thompson May not Play for Steelers… See More

As of January 23, 2025, the Pittsburgh Steelers have made several moves to strengthen their roster for the upcoming season:

Skylar Thompson Signing: The Steelers have signed former Miami Dolphins quarterback Skylar Thompson. Thompson, 27, played three games for the Dolphins last season, completing 63.6% of his passes for 187 yards. His addition comes as the Steelers’ current quarterbacks—Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, and Kyle Allen—are set to become free agents in March.

Aaron Rodgers Speculation: There is speculation that veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers, currently with the New York Jets, might join the Steelers for the 2025 season. NFL insider Peter King suggests that Rodgers could make the Steelers more competitive within the AFC North. Despite being under contract with the Jets until 2025, a move to Pittsburgh is considered possible due to the flexibility of NFL contracts.

Tee Higgins Targeted for 2025: Looking ahead, the Steelers are reportedly interested in acquiring Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins during the 2025 free agency period. Higgins, who was franchise-tagged by the Bengals, recorded 42 receptions for 656 yards and 5 touchdowns in the 2023 season, despite injuries limiting him to 12 games. His potential addition would address the Steelers’ need for depth at the wide receiver position.

These developments indicate the Steelers’ proactive approach to enhancing their roster for the 2025 season.
