The LSU Tigers women’s basketball team kicked off their SEC season in spectacular fashion, delivering a commanding performance in their conference opener. The Tigers faced off against the Mississippi State Bulldogs and showcased why they are among the most formidable teams in women’s college basketball. Led by star player Angel Reese, the Tigers secured an 85-62 victory, breaking a program record for most points scored in an SEC opener.

From the opening tip-off, LSU established dominance on both ends of the court. Reese delivered a double-double with 26 points and 14 rebounds, while fellow teammate Flau’jae Johnson added 18 points and 5 assists. LSU’s aggressive defense forced 19 turnovers, leading to easy transition points that kept the Bulldogs struggling to keep pace. Head coach Kim Mulkey praised her team’s focus and intensity, stating, “We set the tone early and never looked back. This is the energy we need to maintain throughout conference play.”

The victory also marked a milestone for the program as they surpassed 100 consecutive wins at home against unranked opponents. The crowd at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center played a significant role, with fans packing the arena and energizing the team. The win further solidifies LSU’s position as a top contender for the SEC title and a deep NCAA tournament run.

The Tigers’ next challenge comes in a high-profile matchup against the University of Tennessee, a perennial SEC powerhouse. The clash is already generating buzz as one of the season’s must-watch games. With the confidence gained from their dominant opener, LSU looks poised to make a statement in their quest for conference supremacy.
