As the LSU Tigers continue through spring camp, one player who is making a significant impression on the coaching staff is rising cornerback, Latrell Stokes. The sophomore defensive back has been turning heads with his impressive play, and is quickly becoming one of the most talked-about players in Baton Rouge.

Stokes, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound cornerback from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, saw limited action as a freshman last season, but is now taking advantage of the increased reps in spring camp. He has been working with the first-team defense, and has been impressing coaches with his athleticism, technique, and ball-hawking skills.

“Latrell is a guy who has really stood out to us this spring,” said LSU defensive coordinator, Daronte Jones. “He’s got all the physical tools you look for in a cornerback – size, speed, agility – and he’s also shown a great understanding of the game. He’s been making plays on the ball, and has been very consistent in his technique.”

Stokes’ impressive play has not gone unnoticed by his teammates, either. Senior safety, Jay Ward, has been impressed by Stokes’ growth and development, and believes he has the potential to be a shutdown cornerback in the SEC.

“Latrell is a guy who has really taken his game to the next level this spring,” said Ward. “He’s always been athletic, but now he’s starting to understand the game better, and it’s showing on the field. He’s making plays on the ball, and is becoming a lot more confident in his abilities. I think he’s got the potential to be one of the top cornerbacks in the league.”

Stokes’ rise to prominence is a testament to the hard work and dedication he has put in during the offseason. He has been working tirelessly to improve his technique, and has also spent countless hours in the film room, studying his opponents and looking for ways to gain an edge.

“I’ve just been trying to take it one day at a time, and focus on getting better every day,” said Stokes. “I know I’ve got a lot of potential, but I also know that I’ve got a lot to learn. I’m just trying to soak up as much as I can, and take advantage of every opportunity I get.”

As the Tigers continue through spring camp, Stokes will look to continue his impressive play, and solidify his spot as a starter in the LSU secondary. With his athleticism, technique, and ball-hawking skills, he has the potential to be a game-changer for the Tigers’ defense, and could play a key role in helping the team achieve its goals this season.

“Latrell is a guy who has really caught our attention this spring,” said LSU head coach, Brian Kelly. “He’s got all the physical tools you look for in a cornerback, and he’s also shown a great understanding of the game. We’re excited to see him continue to develop, and we think he’s got the potential to be a shutdown cornerback in the SEC.”
