West Virginia University continues to prove that success in the classroom is just as important as excellence on the field. A total of 45 Mountaineer student-athletes were named to the 2025 Big 12 Conference Winter Academic All-Team, marking another strong showing for WVU in the academic arena.

The honor roll, announced by the Big 12 Conference office, recognizes student-athletes who have maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher while participating in varsity-level sports during the winter season. These sports include men’s and women’s basketball, gymnastics, wrestling, and swimming & diving. West Virginia’s 45 honorees reflect the university’s strong commitment to academic achievement, personal development, and athletic success.

Among the standout achievers were multiple members from both the men’s and women’s basketball programs, a sport that demands high time management due to travel and practice schedules. Additionally, student-athletes from the swimming & diving and gymnastics teams made notable contributions to the list, showcasing not only their athletic talent but also their dedication to academic excellence.

To qualify for the First Team, student-athletes must maintain a GPA of 3.20 or higher and have participated in 60% of their team’s scheduled contests. Second Team honorees must maintain a GPA between 3.0 and 3.19. Several Mountaineers earned First Team honors, further underscoring WVU’s academic culture within its athletic department.

Athletic Director Wren Baker praised the honorees, saying, “We are extremely proud of our student-athletes and the way they represent West Virginia University. Their hard work in the classroom and on the field reflects the true spirit of being a Mountaineer.”

With continued academic success across its athletic programs, WVU remains a leader in the Big 12 not only in competition but also in shaping well-rounded student-athletes prepared for life beyond sports. As the Mountaineers celebrate this achievement, they set a high bar for academic integrity and excellence moving forward.
