The Florida Gators baseball program has bolstered its pitching staff by securing a commitment from Caden McDonald, a promising right-handed pitcher from Sickles High School in Tampa, Florida. McDonald had initially committed to the University of Central Florida (UCF) but chose to flip to Florida following changes in UCF’s coaching staff.([gatorswire.usatoday.com][1])

Standing at 6 feet 3 inches and weighing 195 pounds, McDonald is recognized as one of Florida’s top high school pitching talents. In his senior year, he played a pivotal role in leading Sickles to its first-ever state championship. Notably, he pitched a remarkable 81-pitch shutout in the semifinals and contributed offensively with a home run in the title game. His fastball consistently reaches 92–94 mph, touching 95 mph at times, complemented by a sharp slider and a developing curveball. These attributes have earned him national recognition, ranking No. 296 overall and No. 97 among right-handed pitchers by Perfect Game.([gatorswire.usatoday.com][1])

McDonald’s decision to commit to Florida was influenced by the program’s success and culture. He expressed that Florida has always been his dream school, and the opportunity to play for such a renowned program was a compelling factor in his choice. His commitment adds depth to Florida’s pitching lineup, which already includes standout talents like Matthew Jenkins, a transfer from Santa Fe College, and Michael Ross, the Southern Conference Pitcher of the Year from Samford. These additions position Florida’s pitching staff as one of the most formidable in the Southeastern Conference.([gatorswire.usatoday.com][1], [gainesville.com][2])

With McDonald’s commitment, Florida continues to strengthen its roster, aiming for a successful 2025 season. His development under the guidance of head coach Kevin O’Sullivan and the coaching staff is anticipated to contribute significantly to the team’s performance.
