BREAKING: Top Prospect Dionte Neal Flips Recruitment Toward North Carolina

Highly talented 5’9” point guard Dionte Neal has made headlines after decommitting from UNC Greensboro Spartans men’s basketball, reopening his recruitment and quickly drawing strong attention from the North Carolina Tar Heels men’s basketball program.

Neal, widely regarded as one of the most electrifying high school players in North Carolina, originally committed to UNC-Greensboro but announced earlier this week that he would reopen his recruitment after discussions with family and coaches. The dynamic guard said the decision was about exploring the best opportunities for his future as a student-athlete.

The Reidsville High School star has built an incredible résumé during his prep career. Neal is the all-time leading scorer in Reidsville history and has been one of the most productive guards in the state. During his senior season, he has averaged an astonishing 35.6 points, 8.6 assists, 6.4 steals, and 4.6 rebounds per game, numbers that highlight both his scoring ability and all-around impact on the court.

Neal also delivered one of the most memorable performances in school history earlier this season when he scored 63 points in a single game, breaking the program’s single-game scoring record. In addition to his scoring dominance, he has reportedly become the first player in North Carolina high school history to record 1,000 career assists, demonstrating his elite playmaking ability.

Beyond individual accomplishments, Neal has been a key piece of the incredible success of the Reidsville High School basketball program. The Rams have won multiple state championships during his career and compiled an astonishing 109–2 record while he has been part of the team.

What makes Neal even more intriguing for college programs is his versatility as a two-sport athlete. In addition to dominating on the basketball court, he has also excelled in football as a wide receiver, defensive back, and quarterback. His football résumé includes more than 2,400 all-purpose yards and 27 touchdowns, along with multiple state titles for Reidsville.

With his recruitment reopened, several programs have shown interest, but attention is quickly shifting toward the North Carolina Tar Heels men’s basketball, one of the schools that had previously offered Neal an opportunity. If the Tar Heels ultimately land the explosive guard, it would add another talented playmaker to a program that consistently attracts elite prospects and competes at the highest level of college basketball.

For Neal, the coming weeks could define the next chapter of his career. Whether he chooses basketball, football, or potentially both, his dynamic athleticism and record-breaking high school career ensure that college programs — and fans — will be watching closely as his recruitment unfolds.
