Tennessee running back Dylan Sampson has officially declared for the 2025 NFL Draft, bringing an end to his illustrious career with the Volunteers. The announcement, made via Sampson’s social media accounts, highlighted his gratitude to Tennessee’s coaching staff, teammates, and fans for their unwavering support throughout his collegiate journey.

Sampson emerged as one of the most dynamic and reliable players in the Southeastern Conference during his time with the Vols. Known for his explosive speed, elusiveness, and ability to contribute both as a rusher and receiver, Sampson has been a cornerstone of Tennessee’s offense. In the 2024 season, he played a pivotal role in the Vols’ success, amassing over 1,300 rushing yards, 15 touchdowns on the ground, and several crucial receptions in key moments.

“I want to thank the University of Tennessee, my teammates, my coaches, and Vol Nation for making my time in Knoxville unforgettable,” Sampson wrote. “I’ve grown so much as a player and a person, and I’m ready to take the next step in my journey by declaring for the NFL Draft.”

The decision comes as little surprise to fans and analysts, as Sampson’s draft stock has been steadily rising over the past two seasons. Scouts have praised his ability to make plays in space, his vision, and his versatility, making him a potential early-round pick in the upcoming draft. Many project Sampson to be among the top running backs selected, given his consistency and high ceiling at the professional level.

For the Volunteers, Sampson’s departure leaves a significant void in the backfield. The team will look to younger talents to step up and fill his shoes in the 2025 season. However, head coach Josh Heupel expressed pride in Sampson’s accomplishments and optimism for his future.

“Dylan has been a tremendous player and leader for our program,” Heupel said in a statement. “We’re excited to see him take this next step and know he’ll make Tennessee proud at the next level.”

As Sampson prepares for the draft, he joins a legacy of Volunteer running backs who have successfully transitioned to the NFL. His dedication, work ethic, and talent ensure that he’ll be one to watch as the 2025 draft approaches.
