Miami in battle to Land 5-Star Receiver Recruit Calvin Russell.

The Miami Hurricanes are intensifying their pursuit of Calvin Russell III, a five-star wide receiver from Miami Northwestern Senior High School and one of the most coveted prospects in the 2026 class. Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 195 pounds, Russell is ranked as the No. 4 wide receiver and No. 14 overall prospect nationally, according to 247Sports .

 

Russell recently narrowed his list of potential colleges to 12, with Miami making the cut alongside powerhouse programs such as Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Oregon, Florida State, and Florida . The Hurricanes’ inclusion is significant, given Russell’s local roots and the program’s emphasis on retaining top in-state talent.

 

In the 2024 season, Russell showcased his exceptional abilities by recording 39 receptions for 704 yards and 13 touchdowns, leading Miami Northwestern to a state championship . His athletic versatility extends beyond the football field; he’s also a standout basketball player, averaging 15.2 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game .

 

Miami’s coaching staff has been proactive in building a relationship with Russell. He attended the Hurricanes’ end-of-summer recruiting cookout, an event aimed at strengthening bonds with top prospects . Additionally, Russell was present at Miami’s dominant 41-17 victory over Florida in Gainesville, a performance that reportedly left a positive impression on him .

 

The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine currently gives Miami a 48.1% chance of securing Russell’s commitment, positioning them as the frontrunner ahead of Florida (15.1%) and Florida State (6.8%) . Landing Russell would be a significant boost for Miami’s 2026 recruiting class, which already includes three commitments and is ranked No. 31 nationally by 247Sports .
