Elite favor Wolverines, commits to ACC power.

In a surprising twist that has sent shockwaves through the college football recruiting world, one of the nation’s elite prospects has made his decision — and while the Michigan Wolverines were once considered the heavy favorites, the blue-chip recruit is heading south. Four-star defensive back Jamari Williams announced Thursday afternoon that he has committed to Florida State, choosing the Seminoles over Michigan, Alabama, and Georgia.

 

Williams, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound cornerback from Buford, Georgia, is ranked as the No. 6 cornerback in the nation and the No. 42 overall player in the 2025 class, according to 247Sports Composite. A physical, instinctive defender with elite speed and closing ability, Williams had long been projected to land in Ann Arbor. He visited Michigan multiple times over the past year and spoke highly of the Wolverines’ development pipeline to the NFL.

 

However, Florida State made a late surge. Following an official visit to Tallahassee in late May, momentum began shifting. Sources close to Williams say the combination of Florida State’s defensive scheme, tradition, and strong relationships with the coaching staff — particularly defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr
