Michigan’s recruiting momentum shows no signs of slowing down, as the Wolverines added yet another commitment to their already strong 2026 class on Wednesday. This latest addition underscores Michigan’s growing national presence and ability to secure high-level talent across key positions.
The Wolverines picked up a verbal commitment from four-star linebacker Marcus Hayes, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound standout from St. Louis (MO) Christian Brothers College. Known for his sideline-to-sideline speed and physicality, Hayes has been a top target for several Big Ten programs. Ultimately, he chose Michigan over finalists Ohio State, Penn State, and Missouri. His commitment represents another win for the Wolverines on both the recruiting trail and in a head-to-head battle with conference rivals.
Hayes ranks as the No. 112 overall prospect in the 2026 cycle and the No. 10 linebacker nationally, according to Rivals. His versatility, football IQ, and ability to impact both the run game and pass coverage made him a top priority for Michigan defensive coordinator Wink Martindale. The coaching staff sees Hayes as a perfect fit for their aggressive, pro-style defense.
“I felt like home at Michigan,” Hayes said in his announcement. “Coach Martindale has a great plan for how I fit into their scheme. It’s a place where I can develop on and off the field.”
With Hayes now in the fold, Michigan’s 2026 class rises to 11 total commits, including four on defense. He joins fellow defensive standouts Titan Davis (DL)
