Three iconic figures from the University of Miami football program have been named to the 2026 College Football Hall of Fame ballot, as announced by the National Football Foundation. Quarterback Ken Dorsey, linebacker Jonathan Vilma, and head coach Larry Coker are being recognized for their significant contributions to the Hurricanes’ storied history.
Ken Dorsey, Miami’s all-time winningest quarterback, led the Hurricanes to a remarkable 38β2 record as a starter. Under his leadership, the team secured the 2001 national championship and made a subsequent appearance in the 2002 BCS title game. Dorsey set multiple school and Big East records, including career marks for passing yards (9,565), touchdown passes (86), and total offense (9,165 yards). He was a two-time Heisman Trophy finalist, finishing third in 2001 and fifth in 2002.
Jonathan Vilma anchored Miami’s defense during its early 2000s dominance. A 2003 First Team All-American and finalist for the Butkus Award, Vilma led the Hurricanes to back-to-back BCS National Championship games, securing a victory in the 2002 Rose Bowl. He was a three-time First Team All-Big East selection and led the team in tackles from 2001 to 2003. Vilma also earned recognition as a 2003 NFF National Scholar-Athlete.
Head coach Larry Coker made an immediate impact in his first season, guiding the Hurricanes to a national championship in 2001. His tenure from 2001 to 2006 saw Miami achieve a 60β15 record, including a 24-game winning streak. Coker’s leadership solidified the Hurricanes’ status as a powerhouse in college football during the early 21st century.
The 2026 College Football Hall of Fame class will be announced in January 2026, with the induction ceremony scheduled for December 8, 2026, during the 68th NFF Annual Awards Dinner in Las Vegas. For Miami fans, the potential enshrinement of Dorsey, Vilma, and Coker would be a fitting tribute to their enduring legacy and the Hurricanes’ golden era.
